Mike Guerchon, VP of Employee Services at Riverbed Technology, explains how his department goes beyond HR.
As the leader of Employee Services at Riverbed, Guerchon is responsible for more than just the typical human resources functions (e.g., compensation, benefits and employee relations). His department also encompasses:
Environment
Facilities and office space,game rooms, safety, security and the physical aspect of the building.
Employee Training:
On-boarding, leadership development, career advancement and development, technical training, sales training—all of the resources employees need to be able to grow their careers and be great performers at the company.
Traditional HR Functions:
Compensation, benefits, immigration, visa work, employee relations and organizational development.
Recruiting:
Oftentimes this will be a separate organization within a company, but Riverbed ensures a tight handoff from recruiting to HR and training by keeping recruiting under the Employee Services umbrella.
